Department of Physics
The Department of Physics was established in 1968. The Honours stream was introduced in 2002. The departmental library has a collection of 176 books. 5 computers are available in the department. Internet facility is available. The well-kept Laboratory holds a pride of place in the college. To commemorate the greatest scientific event of this century at the Large Hadron Collider, Geneva, the department of Physics conducted a seminar in September 2012. The title of the seminar was “Ishwar Kana – Brahmander Utso Sandhane.” We were honoured to have two eminent speakers. Dr. Dipak Ghosh, Emeritus professor of Jadavpur University, delivered a lecture on Higgs boson. Dr. Premomoy Ghosh, Senior Scientist, VECC, Kolkata, who has worked at the LHC, spoke about the Large Hadron Collider. Besides our students and staff, 10 students and 2 teachers from each of the 7 schools in our locality attended the seminar on our invitation. This was a first in our college to inspire high school students beyond their immediate realms of Physics. The lucid, yet in-depth presentation in Bengali by both the speakers was extremely enjoyable for the entire gathering.
