NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME
The college recognizes the importance of social responsibility and community service in the full development of our students. Towards that end the NSS unit in our college was introduced in October 2003. Since then under the supervision of a Programme Officer and an Advisory Committee, 100 volunteers, 50 male and 50 female students, undertake various projects like road repair, cleaning of ponds, planting fruit bearing trees, educating illiterate people in the adjoining rural areas and in our adopted village.
From the year 2012, the NSS team, under the leadership of Professor Hira Chatterjee, the Programme Officer, did a commendable job by launching a massive cleaning endevour of the entire college building. They also built a garden totally by themselves with permanent net fencing on the bank of river Saraswati by removing the thick overgrowth of weeds. Student volunteers along with other staff members every year organise an Awareness Rally on Yuba Dibas with speeches and placards of Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts and sayings. Along with the regular activities the annual Special Camping Programme was also conducted at our adopted village Alampur (mainly in Kalitala and Kshetrapaltala) Awareness on communicable diseases and surveys on women’s health problems were conducted with the goal of conducting a Health Camp in our college for the village women in the future. NSS unit also regularly conduct the value education speeches by eminent speakers, Blood Donation Camp and distribution of blankets to the poor people.
